Jacksonville, FL -- The Duval County Health Department (DCHD) continues its mosquito-borne illness alert for Duval County. One additional human case of West Nile virus (WNV) has been reported (confirmed or probable) during the current update period. The most recent case involves a 72 year-old female resident. Duval County has 19 reported cases of WNV in 2011. There have been two reported deaths associated with a confirmed case of WNV.
About one in 150 people infected with WNV will develop severe illness. Symptoms can include high fever, headache, neck stiffness, stupor, disorientation, coma, tremors, convulsions, muscle weakness, vision loss, numbness and paralysis. These symptoms may last several weeks, and neurological effects may be permanent. The state monitors animals as sentinels for WNV, to determine if any of the viruses are present in the community.
DCHD continues to advise the public to remain diligent in their personal mosquito protection efforts. These should include remembering “Drain and Cover”. For more information, please click here

DRIVING IN BENTWATER
Homeowners continue to express concerns about people speeding through our neighborhood as well as running the stop signs, the one at Bentwater & Glade Springs in particular. If you feel this is an issue, we encourage you to contact JSO on 630.0500 and request them to increase police presence in our neighborhood.
We would like to remind all residents that the speed limit is 30 mph on all streets. When stopping at stop signs, the 3 second rule should be applied (1 one thousand, 2 one thousand, 3 one thousand, go).
Speeding fines begin @ $139. The fine for running a stop sign is $149
Please note that vehicles parked against the traffic pattern will be ticketed.
PARKING IN THE STREET
We also continue to receive multiple complaints concerning people parking on the street and not utilizing their driveways. You are encouraged to park in your driveway or garage wheneverpossible. Parking on the street creates safety hazards and detracts from the appearanceof the neighborhood. It would be appreciated if you follow the guidelines set forth by this community.
We also ask that if you MUST park in the street, you do not park directly across from another vehicle as this may prohibit emercency vehicles from getting through.
